Thanking the Parties and Candidates of the European Elections for their support for Tibet

May 31, 2024 ・ International Campaign for TibetNews

Amsterdam, 31 May 2024 – The Board of International Campaign for Tibet Europe is grateful about the active participation in our recent initiative aimed at engaging European election candidates on their views regarding China’s interference in European democracies, and their support for Tibet. Over the past weeks, Tibet support groups, Tibetans, and their friends across Europe have reached out to candidates through calls, texts, and emails.

  • Widespread Support: Dozens of candidates have signed up, with three parties from the Netherlands and ten parties in total, including the German SPD, completing our questionnaire.
  • Tibet Pledge: Several candidates have signed the Tibet pledge, demonstrating their commitment to our cause and their preparedness to join the Tibet group, once they are elected members of the European Parliament.

This initiative was made possible through the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to:

  • The three Offices of Tibet in Europe (Brussels, London, Geneva)
  • The current members of the Tibet Interest Group in the European Parliament
  • Tibet Support Groups, International Tibet Network, Tibetan Communities, Tibetan Volunteers and other members of the Tibet movement
  • ICT Europe Team in Amsterdam and Brussels

While we celebrate our achievements, we recognize there is room for growth. We will conduct a thorough evaluation with our staff and external stakeholders to understand how we can improve future efforts.   Looking forward, the EU4Tibet website will continue to serve as a central communication platform for European voters, parties, and individual candidates. We invite everyone to share this platform with their networks and to join us in thanking the candidates who have signed the pledge. Your continued support and involvement are vital as we strive to amplify the voice of Tibet in Europe. Together, we celebrate our collective achievements and look forward to building on this foundation for a brighter future for Tibet.
