ICT Urges Lithuania to Put Tibet on Agenda during its EU Presidency

Today the International Campaign for Tibet submitted its Recommendations to the new Lithuanian EU Presidency. It called on Lithuania to continue its strong support for Tibet and ensure the Tibet issue is brought back to the forefront of the Council of the European Union’s political agenda, as the Baltic country assumes the six-monthly rotating presidency of the Council.

European Parliament Hosts Conference on Tibet’s Environment

The European Parliament’s Tibet Intergroup held its 97th meeting by hosting a conference on the state of Tibet’s environment. The conference, jointly organized by the Office of Tibet in Brussels, the International Campaign for Tibet (ICT) and the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO) took place on 19th June. Keynote speaker was Tenzin Norbu, Head of the Environment and Development Desk of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA).

European Parliament’s Conference: “Tibet’s Environment: Denuding, Degrading & Depopulating” – 19 June 2013

The European Parliament’s Tibet Intergroup will be holding its 97th meeting by hosting a conference on the state of Tibet’s environment. The conference, jointly organized by the Office of Tibet in Brussels, the International Campaign for Tibet (ICT) and the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO), will take place on 19th June from 12.30 – 2pm in the European Parliament (Room ASP3H1).

Kalon Dicki Chhoyang Addresses the European Economic and Social Committee

Kalon Dicki Chhoyang, Kalon for Department of Information and International Relations, Central Tibetan Administration was invited to address the swearing in ceremony of Mr. Henri Malosse, the newly elected President of the European Economic and Social Committee of the European Union. The swearing in ceremony was held on 18 April in the European Parliament. Mr. Henri Malosse in his inaugural speech said that one of the figures he was most inspired by was the Dalai Lama and touched upon the worrying human rights situation inside Tibet.

European Parliament’s Conference ‘Tears of Tibet’ – 10th April

On 10th April the ALDE group is organising a conference on Tibet entitled “Tears of Tibet”. This is a joint initiative by MEPs Ojuland and Donskis. The discussion`s starting point will be the worrying number of self-immolations in Tibet since February 2009 (111 so far). The conference will then touch upon many different issues to highlight the impact of Chinese policies on human rights and the environment in Tibet.

New Nobel Prize Winner, the European Union, must address crisis in Tibet.
