In a resolution adopted at its plenary session today in Strasbourg, the European Parliament has singled out China for its persecution of Tibetans and other ethnic and religious groups and demanded that the Chinese authorities respect their fundamental rights and freedoms.
Ahead of the 21st EU-China Summit in Brussels on 9 April, a group of NGOs including ICT published a press release calling on EU leaders to press their Chinese counterparts on the deteriorating human rights situation in the country during the meeting.

In a rare Joint Statement made public today, the Human Rights Committee of the German parliament called on the “Chinese Government to immediately stop the repression of the Tibetan people and resume dialogue with the legitimate representatives of the Tibetans.”
On 13 March, a group of NGOs including ICT addressed a letter to the EU and EU Member States to urge them to press China on human rights at a forthcoming series of dialogues and the EU-China Summit

Tibetans and their friends from across Europe will convene in Brussels on 10 March this year for a mass solidarity rally commemorating the Tibetan National Uprising Day of 1959. The event will be an opportunity to highlight the continuing plight of Tibetans in Tibet and to seek renewed support in Europe for the non-violent freedom struggle of the Tibetan people.
The International Campaign for Tibet welcomes the recent establishment of two parliamentary groups on Tibet in France and the Czech Republic, an important sign of the continuous support for the Tibetan people in Europe.
On the occasion of the 12th ASEM (Asia-Europe) Summit on 18 and 19 October, the Uyghur, Tibetan and Southern Mongolian communities will hold a demonstration in Brussels (on 18 from 11h-13h at Schuman Roundabout) calling on EU leaders to use this meeting to voice concerns about the deteriorating human rights situation in China, in particular for ethnic and religious groups.
