President of the European Council Donald Tusk directly referred to concerns on Tibet and called for dialogue to be resumed at a joint press conference with China’s Prime Minister Li Keqiang following the 17th EU-China Summit in Brussels on June 29.
Ahead of the next EU-China Summit, starting on 29 June in Brussels, EU Member States must reach a common position on human rights concerns in Tibet and raise them with the Chinese government during this exchange. The Tibetan community in Belgium will mark this event with a demonstration at Schuman Roundabout in Brussels at 12:30.

On 30th June, MEPs Thomas Mann and Csaba Sógor, the International Campaign for Tibet (ICT) and the Office of Tibet in Brussels will jointly hold a special event to mark the 80th birthday of the Dalai Lama in the European Parliament. The photo exhibition, “Ways of Wisdom: Celebrating the Dalai Lama’s 80th Birthday”, will be displayed in the European Parliament until 3 July.
On 18 June 2015, the International Campaign for Tibet issued a statement on freedom of expression in Tibet at the 29th session of the UN Human Rights Council. The statement highlighted that in Tibet “almost any expression of cultural or national identity can be characterized as ‘splittist’ and ‘criminal’ with harsh punishments imposed.”
On 15 June 2015, the International Campaign for Tibet organised a side event – “Lockdown in Tibet” – during the 29th session of the UN Human Rights Council. The panelists included, among others, the U.S. Ambassador to the Human Rights Council, Mr. Keith Harper and the Undersecretary of State and Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues, Dr. Sarah Sewall.
The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini must address the worsening human rights situation in Tibet during her upcoming visit to China on the occasion of the Strategic Dialogue to be held on 5 – 6 May.

March 10, 2015 is the 56th anniversary of the Tibetan Uprising leading to the Dalai Lama’s flight into exile in 1959, and the seventh anniversary of an unprecedented wave of protests which swept through Tibet, only to be met by a violent crackdown. This year’s March 10 anniversary has a particular resonance as the Dalai Lama’s will turn 80 this year, a moment of particular significance to Tibetans.
The International Campaign for Tibet (ICT) called on Latvia to ensure that the Tibet issue is brought back to the forefront of the Foreign Affairs Council’s political agenda, as the Baltic country assumed the six-monthly rotating presidency of the Council on 1st January 2015.
